Books in Tomás Rivera Award - Young Readers
The Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award recognizes authors and illustrators whose literary work depicts the Mexican American experience. The Texas State University College of Education established this award in 1995 in honor of distinguished alumnus Tomás Rivera, an educator, poet, and author whose works depict the difficulties Mexican migrant farmers face, and the first Mexican American to serve as chancellor at the University of California.
